What happens when you book.

Pain can leave you feeling uncertain.

You may be wondering why it started, why it keeps coming back, or whether you're making things worse when you move.

So, what can you expect when you come and see me?

Here's how I work, from your first session through to getting you back to doing the things that matter to you.

Your first appointment

Four things, in this order.

Your first appointment is designed to give us a clear understanding of your problem. Nothing happens to you without being explained first.

  1. 01

    We talk first

Your symptoms, your medical history, your life, and what you're actually trying to get back to. Most of what I need to know comes out of this conversation, not the examination.

  2. 02

    I assess how you move

A detailed look at how your body moves as a whole, not just the sore bit. This is usually where the reason for your pain shows up.

  3. 03

I tell you what I found

In plain language, before I treat anything. You'll know what I think is going on, what I'm not sure about, and why.

  4. 04

We treat, and you leave with a plan

Hands-on treatment where it's appropriate, plus the two or three things worth doing before I see you again. You'll always know why I'm recommending something.

Initial appointment

50 minutes

The full assessment above, treatment where it's appropriate, and a plan you understand before you leave.

Follow-up

40 minutes

We review how you've responded, continue treatment, and progress your exercises. I'll be honest about how many of these you need.

Treatment may include

  • Hands-on osteopathic treatment
  • Joint mobilisation and manipulation
  • Soft tissue techniques
  • Movement assessment
  • Rehabilitation exercises
  • Advice and education

My approach

I don't believe there is one technique that works for everyone.

Some people respond well to hands-on treatment.

Others benefit more from improving strength, movement or confidence.

Most people need a combination of both.

So rather than following the same formula for every patient, I use the approach that suits the person in front of me. The aim is always the same: help you understand your body, reduce pain, and build lasting confidence in how you move.

Conditions I commonly help with

What people come to me with.

If you're unsure whether osteopathy is right for you, get in touch. I'll always be happy to point you in the right direction, even if that direction isn't me.

Why rehabilitation matters

Treatment opens the door. Rehab walks you through it.

Hands-on treatment can be genuinely valuable. It reduces pain, improves movement and creates an opportunity for change.

But lasting recovery usually needs more than treatment alone.

So where it's appropriate, I'll give you practical exercises and advice designed to build strength, confidence and resilience: things that keep working long after you've left the clinic.

The goal is to help you feel better today, then KEEP you feeling better for the long run.

Frequently asked questions

Good things to know.

Will I receive treatment during my first appointment?

In most cases, yes. Once we've completed your assessment and discussed what I've found, treatment will usually begin during your first visit if it's appropriate to do so.

Do I need a referral from my GP?

No. Osteopaths are primary healthcare practitioners, which means you can book directly without a referral.

What should I wear?

Something comfortable that allows easy access to the area we're treating. If we're working on the lower body, stretchy or sports shorts work well. If we're working on the upper body and you're female, wear a bra you're comfortable being seen in, along with a loose vest or strappy top you can wear over it if I need to assess or treat your back, neck or shoulders. If you're unsure what the session will cover, comfortable loose-fitting clothing is always a safe choice. You're also welcome to bring a change of clothes and get ready here. I'll always explain what I'm doing and why before any hands-on treatment, so there are no surprises.

What if osteopathy isn't the right thing for me?

Then I'll say so. If I think you need onward medical care, or that coaching would serve you better than a course of treatment, I'd rather tell you at the first appointment than keep booking you in.

Ready to get started?
